Elder Care La Jolla CA
Special Events & Activities
With so much work to be done within communities, there is no shortage of ways to become involved on World Habitat Day. An annual theme is released however, one for 2015 has not been revealed yet. That doesn’t mean families assisting their aging loved ones with home care can’t begin planning:
- Donate Household Goods: the donation of items no longer used in the home goes a long way for someone in need. Aging loved ones tend to have things tucked away in attics, garages, and basements that could be used in Habitat ReStores.
- Volunteer Time: families assisting their aging loved ones with senior care can look for a Habitat for Humanity home building site to volunteer at in their honor.
- Collect Donations: within communities, there are always families who are in need. Setting up a fundraiser or a series of fundraisers for these families in observance of World Habitat Day is a special way of making a difference, helping the community, and giving those families a hand up during their time of need. Donations can be monetary, clothing, food, household items, or whatever else these families need. Aging loved ones can help sort out items, inventory items, and so on.
Community Events
Annually, there are dinners where speakers and other talks occur outlining the projects and volunteer work occurring as a direct result of World Habitat Day. These events occur at a community and state level and are often held in larger cities. Therefore, families who are interested in attending with their aging loved ones will have to perform some preliminary research to determine where they are located. If their aging loved one doesn’t have the energy to attend the event, they may be able to watch it at a later event on a local broadcasting channel or on a webcast.
Final Thoughts
The observance of World Habitat Day is an excellent way for aging loved ones receiving assistance with in-home care to impart wisdom upon future generations with regards to the spirit of giving throughout the year. While this event occurs on a single day, it serves as a catalyst for encouraging everyone to focus on how important it is to join together in support of one another, ensure everyone has everything they need, and that people are surrounded by adequate living conditions.
