Riding a Bike
Riding a bike is another way to work on balance issues, especially if your senior rides an actual bicycle around her neighborhood. Stationary bikes can do just as much for her, though. Biking helps to work her larger muscles and can improve circulation.
Lifting Light Weights
Lifting smaller, lighter weights is a good way for your elderly family member to build her muscle tone and to get moving a bit. Getting her blood flowing can also help her with her breathing, which is a crucial part of managing COPD. Lighter weights are less likely to wear your elderly family member out, which is definitely something that you want to avoid if possible.
