Can Goat Yoga Ease Your Mom’s Arthritis Pain?

February is National Goat Yoga Month, which is a method of yoga that has been used and developed to assist with joint pain and fatigue.

Lainey Morse established Goat Yoga in 2016 after being diagnosed with Sjogren’s Syndrome. The incurable disease caused joint pain and fatigue, and she found that being out in the fields, while exhausting, also led to happiness as her baby goats frolicked around her. Goat Yoga was born from this.

February is National Goat Yoga Month. Have you considered the benefits of Goat Yoga with your mom’s arthritis pain?

Animals Offer Several Health Benefits

The CDC is one of several agencies to report the benefits of being around pets. Blood pressure benefits are key. Pets reduce your blood pressure, which is good for your heart. They can also help reduce cholesterol (triglycerides) levels and ease loneliness.

Goats don’t have to bond with a human before wanting attention. That makes them the perfect animal for Yoga. They’ll approach and climb over anyone. People who’ve attended Goat Yoga sessions report that the pressure of the animal is similar to a massage and incredibly relaxing.

Yoga also offers benefits. The stretches and movements help build your mom’s muscles and strengthen her joints. It also assists with balance and stress reduction. While she may not want to exercise when she has arthritis, it helps ease the pain.

What happens if some of the Yoga stretches are too much for your mom? She’s welcome to stop and sit and rest while the class continues.

They’re no-pressure classes where you stick to your limits. While the Yoga classes are designed for beginners, there may be poses that your mom finds challenging. She can sit back and let a goat climb into her lap for cuddles.

Where Do You Find Goat Yoga Classes?

Where can you find a Goat Yoga class for you and your mom to do together? GoatYoga.net has a directory of Goat Yoga locations across the U.S. You can also search online to see if any local Yoga studios or goat farms offer classes.

Consider Having Aides to Help Your Mom on Painful Days

When your mom’s arthritis pain is getting the best of her, how do things around her home get done? Do her chores pile up until someone can stop by? Are you the person who is continually asked to do her laundry, vacuum the carpets, or change her sheets every other week? There’s a better way.

Arrange home care services to help your mom keep her home clean and organized. Senior home caregivers can vacuum, change the sheets, make her bed, do the laundry, and handle other light housekeeping tasks. They can take her shopping, cook meals for her, and assist with personal care.

With home care providers handling day-to-day chores, your mom can focus on using exercise and over-the-counter pain medications to feel better. Learn more about these services by talking to an advisor.
