Home Care in Coronado CA

Home Care in Coronado CA April 22 is Earth Day, the perfect time to make doing your part to improve and protect the environment a part of your home care routine with your aging loved one. Each person has a responsibility to take steps to take care of the Earth, and doing it together can be a fantastic source of mental stimulation and even physical activity. By dedicating herself to making changes in the environment with you and with her in home care services provider, your parent can feel connected, involved, and important to the world around her. This helps to ward off feelings of depression, hopeless, and loss of motivation, while also encouraging a more active lifestyle.

There are many ways that you and your parent can celebrate Earth Day by doing something wonderful for the environment. Let these ways inspire you to come up with your own Earth Day celebrations:

  • Plant a tree. From providing shade and creating oxygen, to enhancing the beauty of a space to helping to secure and protect soil, trees are extremely important. Team up with your parent to plant some of these vital plants throughout her yard. If she does not have space, or you want to do something more, research your area to find organizations that plant trees in public parks and other areas and volunteer to help.
  • Reduce resource usage. Dedicate yourself to being more conservative about the use of resources. Conserve water by collecting rain water for water plants and washing, turn off the lights whenever possible, and use your climate control system moderately.
  • Recycle. Cutting down the amount of waste that ends up in the landfills is an important part of protecting the environment. Find creative ways to recycle items throughout your home. This fun and simple craft is a great way to use up an old plastic soda bottle and has the added benefit of supporting wildlife.

What You Will Need

  • Birdseed
  • A two liter plastic bottle
  • Wire or twine
  • A funnel
  • Duct tape
  • A set of chopsticks
  • A pair of scissors or a knife
  • A clean dry towel

What to Do

  • Wash the bottle thoroughly and dry it out completely before using
  • Remove any plastic labeling around the bottle and wash it off as well, getting the bottle as clean as possible and removing as much of the residue from the sticky paper as possible
  • Turn the bottle upside down so the mouth is facing the ground
  • Use the scissors or the knife to cut two very small holes in the bottom of the bottle (which is now facing up)
  • Thread the twine or wire through one hole and out the other
  • Tie the wire or twine loosely, creating a loop which could hang from a pot holder or tree branch
  • Cut two more small holes on either side of the bottle, opposite each other, roughly three inches above the cap of the bottle
  • Push the chopsticks through the hole, widening it if needed to get them through
  • Two inches above the chopsticks, which will serve as a perch, poke two holes, creating a feeding hole
  • Turn the bottle back right side up so the twine is facing the ground
  • Unscrew the cap and fill half of the bottle with birdseed
  • Screw the cap back on and flip the bottle back over
  • Tie the wire or twine on a pot holder outside or on a tree branch
